If you are a design enthusiast looking to connect with nature, AutoCamp is exactly what you are looking for. We recently spent some time with the folks at AutoCamp during our Spring MRKT and at the grand opening of the new AutoCamp Catskills in Saugerties, NY.
AutoCamp is unlike any other glamping experience we’ve ever had. They offer unique overnight lodgings and accommodations in modern Airstream suites and luxurious tents at locations around the country that we’ve always wanted to visit – from our very own Catskills to Cape Cod, Yosemite National Park, the Russian River Valley, and Joshua Tree National Park. It’s an incredible combination of great outdoor living while being pampered with premier, boutique-style amenities, including cushy towels, comfy linens, welcoming hospitality, a beautifully designed clubhouse, and a fire pit with a grill for cooking, campfires, and s’mores.

We got to know the AutoCamp team when they joined us for Spring MRKT ‘22 to celebrate the opening of its newest location—AutoCamp Catskills. Field + Supply guests were treated to a series of AutoCamp Catskills-sponsored activities, including learning the fundamentals of fly fishing with Todd Spire, sampling delicious recipes made with wild edibles foraged by Sean Rowe and soaking in the beauty of the Hudson River at AutoCamp’s Happy Hour, complete with freshly made s’mores and delicious libations.

AutoCamp Catskills offers everything we love right in our own Upstate New York backyard. Whether we want to visit the neighboring historic towns of Woodstock or Saugerties, hike/snowshoe the extensive network of nearby trails, ski Hunter Mountain, or relax with our friends in their classic, Hudson Valley-style Clubhouse designed by Workshop/APD, the Autocamp Catskills experience amplifies each piece of East Coast heaven.

We asked Andrew Kline, Associate Principal, Design Director at Workshop/APD a few questions about the design inspiration at AutoCamp Catskills.
How did you capture the spirit of the Catskills in your design?
I became a Catskills resident at the start of the pandemic, so I was especially excited to celebrate the spirit of a place I love and call home. We really wanted to scratch the surface though, so our design team did a ton of research on the region, exploring and seeking hyper-local inspiration for the property. It’s hard to ignore the Catskills’ cultural history, but its stunning natural surroundings and agricultural roots helped to inform the Clubhouse’s barn-like structure. Inside, its eclectic furnishings are a subtle tribute to the local music and cultural scene.
What's your favorite design element at AutoCamp Catskills?
My favorite elements in the Clubhouse are the timber structure itself, and the cinderblock wall planes. I love that the structure is exposed – it creates an amazing cathedral space, and the timbers are honest, beautiful, solid wood. The cinderblock celebrates a utilitarian material, used in farms and industrial buildings, in a way that is modern and unfussy, and together they provide a beautiful architectural contrast to the warm, layered, textured furnishings
What's your favorite thing to do when you stay at AutoCamp Catskills?
I love to hang out with friends around a bonfire and cook over the open flames.
