About The Ardent Homesteaders: We began our homesteading journey in 2010 with a modest flock of chickens (which we like to call the gateway animal). Over the years we have expanded to raise a small herd of Milking Devon cattle, heritage breed pigs, and yes, more poultry. We consume most of the meat we produce and vegetables & fruit we grow ourselves, but certain things have also become part of the business, such as pork shares and fresh eggs.
About Cara-Sel: Cara-Sel is handmade in tiny batches with just five all-natural ingredients: organic sugar, heavy cream, Cabot butter, sea salt, and vanilla.
Small batches = more control. This means the melted sugar can go well past the color of copper. It’s toward the edge of being too dark (almost burnt, but not!) until the moment the luxuriously rich dairy comes into play.
Making this dangerously dark caramel is worth it because you can taste it in the sauce. It adds a bittersweet complexity you can’t get from lab-made “flavorings.” Speaking of which, there aren’t any. No preservatives either. Just some sea salt and vanilla to elevate the flavors.
There are countless ways to enjoy our handmade salted caramel sauce. Of course, it's great over ice cream, but think beyond sundaes and try one of our many other delicious ideas. No matter how you taste it, even if it's just by the spoonful, Cara-Sel is sure to delight.
We do not accept returns but are happy to replace any item damaged in shipping. // Cara-Sel is made in a facility that also processes foods containing tree nuts, peanuts, eggs, soy, and wheat. // Cara-Sel does not contain any artificial preservatives, yet the shelf life prior to opening is at least one year. It is best stored out of direct sunlight and high temps. Once opened, it could last for months in your refrigerator...but we have yet to meet anyone with that kind of willpower.
