One of a kind. A river of gold flowing along the base of a canyon of irregular and undulating Walnut cliffs. With its live edges turned inwards, this single, wide bookmatch of Walnut generates a window of negative space filled with unlacquered brass inlay. Whorls of mirrored grain from deepest, darkest heartwood to palest cream sapwood document the growth of this sustainable, salvaged tree which grew here in the Hudson Valley. Three handcut and hand-set Walnut butterflies support the tabletop asymmetrically.
The modified trestle base has handcut wedged through tenon joints connecting a high center bar set up against the underside of the tabletop, allowing it to seat 10 comfortably. Single board pillars support a sharply geometric base design with long, solid hand-set brass bar 'feet' pinned traditionally with handmade brass pins.
Our finishes preserve the natural color, luminance and touch of the wood grain. They provide a strong, low maintenance, ring-free and environmentally friendly surface.
Tabletop is 1" thick
Each base pillar is 8" wide
Along the floor, the base is 28" wide
Each brass foot is 1.5" by .5" bar
There is a 15.5" overhang on each end and at the side of the pillars
The crevice of brass is about 2" at its widest point
A piece like this can be customized to fit your space. Please be in touch with us if you would like to discuss custom work. Most of the pieces we create at Moran Woodworked Furniture are commissioned works. For us, the beauty of commissioned work is that it is bespoke to your space and evolves out of a relationship we build with you over time.
Designed jointly by the two of us, Celia Gibson & Michael Moran, our woodwork and metalwork, from turned legs to hand-cut joints, is built entirely by Michael in our Hudson Valley workshop.
